The Attorney General for Australia, Senator George Brandis today announced Government financial support for data retention by ISPs.

The government will be supplying each ISP with an Officeworks gift voucher to cover the costs arising from data retention.

In a press conference today Senator Brandis said, “with these gift vouchers ISPs will be able to purchase several reams of paper which they can use to record any meta data used by their customers. This is something only the Coalition would be willing to do and shows we support businesses of all types.”

When asked by one reporter if perhaps a more ‘Digital’ solution might not be more appropriate Senator Brandis replied that he didn’t accept the premise of the question, nor did he understand it.
